Tooth loss doesn’t have to be forever when there are dental restorations at your disposal.dental implants

While most people just assume that only older individuals deal with tooth loss, the fact of the matter remains that anyone, no matter their age, can face this problem. From facial injuries to severe decay, there are many reasons a tooth may fall out or need to be extracted. Our Venice, FL, dentists Dr. Charles Davis, Dr. Brent Beyer and Dr. Frank Lewicki know that having gaps in your smile is unsightly and embarrassing, which is why we are happy to share with you how dental implants can get your smile back on track.

This small metal post may not look like much but you’d be surprised just how much it can do to turn your toothless smile around. Dental implants are placed into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure that our Venice, FL, general dentists perform right here in the office. While most people hear surgery and get a little nervous, we are here to assure you that the procedure isn’t nearly as invasive as you may think. Your mouth will be fully numb thanks to local anesthesia, so you won’t feel anything and you’ll be able to go home right after.

Of course, now that the implant is nestled within the jawbone something pretty magical start to occur. Over the course of three to six months, as the jawbone and tissue heal from the procedure they will also grow around and fuse together with the titanium implant that we placed within the jawbone. Once they have fully fused together the implant is now a permanent structure within your mouth, meaning that it could end up lasting the rest of your life.

The next step is to place the next piece of the implant. This piece is called an abutment and its sole purpose is to sit on top of the implant to connect it with an artificial tooth so that the tooth stays in place. Think of an abutment like a natural tooth that has been prepped to receive a dental crown. Once the abutment is placed during another minor procedure we will wait a couple of weeks to let the gums heal before placing a dental crown over the abutment to finalize your tooth replacement treatment.
